Daily Dispatch: Davis Cup Begins Tomorrow
Davis Cup gets underway tomorrow, with World Group Semifinals and World Group Playoffs taking place this weekend. Argentina will take on the Czech Republic, and Spain will take on the United States for a chance to advance to the Davis Cup Finals. Check out our preview of the marquee match-ups here.
As World No. 1 Roger Federer prepared for Switzerland’s Davis Cup tie with the Netherlands, he shared some unique Federer-esque comments that only he can get away with:
“It’s a matter of getting through and not losing, me being the overwhelming favorite in most of the matches,” Federer said.
He’s right, but still …
Meanwhile, a reporter asked Thiemo de Bakker whether the local crowd in Amsterdam would cheer for the Netherlands Davis Cup team against the popular Federer.
“Probably everyone will remember to behave and cheer,” he said. “For us. Yes. They know they’re supposed to.”
