Monfils, Tsonga Reach Semis in Metz
In his first tournament back after missing more than 80 days on the ATP Tour, World No. 44 Gael Monfils beat World No. 18 Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4, to reach the semifinals in Metz.
World No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also advanced to the Metz semifinals, beating World No. 78 Jesse Levine, 6-3, 6-4, after a slow start. Tsonga dropped the first two games of the match, but broke Levine back for 2-2 in the first set on the eighth break point chance in a 20 minute service game. From that point on, Tsonga cruised through the match, never allowing Levine a break chance in the second set.Andreas Seppi secured his own spot in the Metz semifinals, beating Florian Mayer, 7-5, 6-2. He will face Monfils in the semifinals, while Tsonga will take on Nikolay Davydenko.
In St. Petersburg, Mikhail Youzhny beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, to reach the semifinals, where he’ll face Martin Klizan, who beat Ricardas Berankis 6-3, 6-2.
In the other St. Petersburg semifinal, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who beat Flavio Cipolla 6-2, 7-5, will take on Fabio Fognini, who beat Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4, 7-6(1).
